Summary:

The Town of Randolph is seeking a qualified, motivated individual to be the Town’s Animal Control Officer. Performs domestic animal capture & care duties, investigative and administrative work in the enforcement of regulations relating to the control and regulation of domestic, farm & wild animals; responds to domestic, farm & wild animal related complaints; investigates reports of vicious animals and animal bites; responds to emergency calls from the police or fire departments.

The ACO must be available to the Town, on call, on an emergency basis after hours and weekends. An example after hours call may include the need to remove or evaluate a vicious dog from an active police response scene. The ACO coordinates and executes the appropriate response to any dog or other animal that is injured, maimed, or diseased within the Town of Randolph. Responds to emergency suspect rabies complaints about wild animals, (raccoons, bats, ect). Investigates alleged animal abuse, violations of ordinances related to animal care or behavior. Enforces Town codes and state and federal laws; makes and prefers complaints against owners of dogs not properly licensed and collared; enforces leash laws. Maintains records for number of animal complaints, (including unlicensed dogs, feral cats, roosters, chickens, rats, deer, coyotes, foxes and other wildlife), and other information required by law. Patrols the Town seeking violations of Town codes; issues citations for violations of codes; captures loose dogs in the Town; may appear in court for hearings or trials. Performs general animal care work; maintain working relationship with the designated Randolph animal care facility and attempts to locate/find new owners to prospective new owners or rescue groups. Picks up dead domestic & wild animals, (for example, roadkill) and disposes of them properly. Coordinates annual Rabies vaccination day for domestic pets. Works collaboratively with the Town Clerk’s office regarding the licensing of dogs. Transports animals to agency, shelter, or veterinarian, as appropriate, while attempts to locate owners are made and/or when the animal needs to be impounded or investigated for diseases such as rabies. Patrols assigned areas in animal control vehicle, seeking animals that are stray, sick, injured, or deceased. Work requires the application of independent judgment to analyze unusual situations and determine the best course of action. Unusual situations, requiring clarification of policies or procedures, are referred to the supervisor.
